MODEM-03 is a series of archival releases by First Tone

First Tone’s 1, the third release on the modemain imprint, finds Duane Pitre (solo works on Important Records, Root Strata, NNA Tapes) and Turk Dietrich (duo works with Belong and Second Woman on kranky, Spectrum Spools, and Tresor) early in the collaborative process that would ultimately culminate with their 2019 Spectrum Spools LP Reactions. 1 is the first in a series of archival releases documenting the evolution of their creative partnership. This document serves as the marker for the moment their combined sounds generated that essential spark of a great collaboration – the moment experimentation finds its unique path forward.
